At Good in Wood, craftsman Chris Flavey creates stunning long-lasting kitchenware and homewares from Australian hardwoods. He crafts raw timbers into solid butcher blocks, cheeseboards, serving platters and feast boards, which beautifully frame your food.
The materials he uses are all sustainably harvested timbers from trusted resources; recycled and reclaimed timbers from Sydney’s wharves and warehouses; and rare timbers such as Tasmanian Huon Pine or Blackheart Sassafras.
It’s not just the use of beautiful Australian hardwoods that make Good in Wood food servers and platters distinct and unique – it’s the combination of timbers the patterns. There’s the cheese board of Tasmanian Huon Pine paired with Sydney Blue Gum, and another which pairs Black-heart Sassafras with rich purple Jarrah from Western Australia. The Diamantina boards designs are drawn from the Channel country in south-west Queensland with its dry sands and ephemeral rivers and billabongs.
Good in Wood’s boards are perfect for a weekend afternoon relaxing with friends over a board of cheeses, cured meats, crusty bread, grapes, and fruit. The feast platters are ideal for Sunday's barbecue chops, slow-roasted beef or butterflied leg of lamb. They also make excellent presents and the perfect “Aussie gift” when visiting friends or family overseas.
Each board is handcrafted by Chris at his Lane Cove workshop, and then hand-finished through fine sanding before being seasoned with organic coconut oil and fragrant orange oil.
