Government House A visit to Government House provides a rare glimpse inside the working State House of the NSW Governor. Set against the backdrop of the magnificent State Rooms, students participate in free curriculum-linked programs that address HSIE outcomes. Programs for Stage 1 focus on celebrations past and present, how the house has been a focal point for community celebrations and students even re-enact the 1855 Queen's Birthday Ball. Stage 3 programs pose the questions: What happens at Government House? What is the Governor's role? As citizens, what responsibilities do we have? Students explore these questions while developing an understanding of the relationship between government, law, society and themselves. ESL tours that encourage students to practice English in functional ways are also popular. Contact details: |

Primary programs linked to the HSIE syllabus develop students' understanding of the cultures of the Aboriginal peoples of Sydney and the impact the British colonisation had upon them and the environment. High school programs are available in History, providing opportunities for students to engage with primary and secondary sources. Current exhibitions can be incorporated into programs, especially selected photographic exhibitions that offer students a context for developing skills and knowledge in critical and historical analysis of photographs as well as utilizing the 'frames' to explore photographic works.
