Since early colonial settlement, artists including Charles Conder, Peter Kingston, Arthur Streeton, Harold Cazneaux and Max Dupain have been inspired by The Rocks and its many vistas.
The Rocks is also home to the Julian Ashton School, one of Australia's best known art schools whose luminaries include William Dobell, Thea Proctor, John Olsen, Brett Whiteley and Max Dupain; and the site of one of this nation's leading art institutions, the Museum of Contemporary Art.
As The Rocks has played an important part in our artistic past, it is fitting it plays a role in its future.
In 2010, for the first time, shopfronts in The Rocks will be transformed, with an exciting and vibrant exhibition of the best artworks by this year's HSC Visual Arts students.
