HMS Discovery at The Rocks Discovery Museum is a fun-packed, interactive learning experience involving a simulated 1792 ship's deck and wharf area. Willing and able crew are required for the voyage of HMS Discovery from Plymouth, England to Sydney Cove.

Ages 4 - 10 (all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult)

My eight-year-old daughter (Bella) and 18 of her friends went to the HMS workshop today at The Rocks Discovery Museum where they became 'crew of a ship' for an hour.
Bella said if felt like she was on a real voyage and loved all the tasks they were set to do. The captain did a great job of delivering the orders ("Kind but firm and clear"). The rats were a lot of fun to kill. On the outside Bella said it just looked like a couple of bits of wood but on the inside it felt like a real working ship.
Even though there were a range of ages in the group, as young as five, all were kept entertained and engaged. We are continually impressed with your museum. Last school holidays we bought along a group to do an archaeological dig and it has so far determined what Bella wants to grow up and be. (Although, after today maybe I have a sailor on my hands).
We just wanted to let you know what a fantastic experience you gave us and all the kids today. AND - all for free! Thank you!
