IT HAPPENED THIS WEEK:
Thomas Warne murdered by his French man-servant, Jean Videlle, in 1844.

Videlle cut up the body which he tried to burn in the fireplace of the small apartment the two shared on the western side of George Street where the railway now crosses.

Failing to burn the body it was taken in a trunk to Cadman's Cottage to be dumped in the harbour.

The crime discovered, Videlle was tried and executed the following February.
