Bastille Festival in The Rocks

Bastille Festival

This July, Sydney’s Bastille Festival, now in its sixth year, will fill The Rocks with the tastes, sights and sounds of France. The Festival will be held over Bastille Day weekend from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 July.

It is the world’s largest Bastille Day celebration outside of France and is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the precinct. Building on its massive success last year, this year the festival will be expanded to include even more areas within The Rocks.

Francophiles will love this ooh la la festival of French food, wine and art. There will be four food villages, eight wine bars and beer gardens, 14 live concerts, two DJ sets, a cabaret show, seven movie screenings outdoors and more than 40 live street performances!

Property NSW will be enhancing the precinct with stylised theming, including red, white and blue lighting on buildings, awnings and trees throughout the precinct.

Festive Christmas decorations will also be installed throughout Jack Mundey Place and Playfair Street.

There will be Christmas entertainment to match, with a celebrated choir of community carollers performing a repertoire of the most popular French and English Christmas carols.

NAIDOC Week 2018 in The Rocks

NAIDOC Week 2018 will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, our families, our rich history, and our nation.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, which seeks to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.

This year’s theme – Because of Her, We Can – recognises the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, past and present, who have served as leaders, politicians, activists and social change advocates.

To honour NAIDOC Week 2018, Property NSW will be hosting a Welcome to Country at Tallawoladah Lawn on Monday 9 July at 9.30am. Elders and speakers from the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council will be speaking, followed by a traditional smoking ceremony and performance.

A photographic exhibition celebrating the achievements of exemplary Indigenous women, and their significant contribution to the advancement of Australian Indigenous rights and culture, will be displayed at The Rocks Centre throughout NAIDOC Week.

Destination NSW values your participation during the festival and would greatly appreciate your feedback and insight to help improve future events.

Every year, Destination NSW undertakes a research program with retailers to find out about their experience and better understand the impact of Vivid Sydney on local businesses. Your participation in their research will help provide valuable insights and assist Destination NSW with future planning and making improvements where needed.

Once Vivid Sydney ends, Destination NSW will contact tenants via a phone survey to receive your feedback on how the event impacted your business this year; your thoughts on the Retail Activation Pack; and any recommendations that you may have on how retailers within Vivid Sydney precincts can be better supported in the future.
