The inspiration for Leisa Hoare's artisan range of bags is drawn from her maker grandparents. Cecil, who was a boot mender, stored his leather offcuts to use them on smaller jobs; while Jenny, a dress- and patternmaker, put every piece of leftover fabric aside to use later.

Whether Leisa inherited Cecil and Jenny’s ‘save and reuse’ ethos in her genes, or absorbed it as a child playing around them while they worked, she’s certainly following in their footsteps. Leisa cuts and joins the leathers she uses for her bags, turning their colour and grain variations into distinctive features, and saves fabric and leather offcuts to incorporate into other bags and their linings.

Leisa ensures that her bags are friendly to both their owners and the environment. She uses Italian upholstery leather that complies with the EU’s strict regulations concerning dyes and tanning processes; fabric components are sewn from a sturdy Australian-made 100% cotton canvas, and she introduces a delicate range of colours and patterns by sourcing gorgeous vintage Japanese kimono fabrics for linings and feature panels.

Leisa’s range of highly original, convertible leather bags are crafted by hand in the Blue Mountains. Every bag is unique and can be worn in six different ways: shoulder bag, sling bag, backpack, long handbag, clutch or no lid.
