NAIDOC Week 2018 celebrates the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, our families, our rich history, and our nation.

This year’s theme is Because of Her, We Can, recognising the achievements of inspirational Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have paved the way for future generations of Indigenous women. The Rocks pays tribute with special events including a photo exhibition of incredible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, as well as a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. Weaving workshops and tours at The Rocks Discovery Museum will share insights into the history and heritage of Aboriginal people in The Rocks.

Be sure to head to the MCA during NAIDOC Week for lunchtime film screenings, panel discussions. I am the old and the new, will be on display – a comprehensive survey of the work of John Mawurndjul, one of Australia’s leading contemporary Indigenous artists.
