Spend New Year’s Eve in The Rocks and treat yourself to the best atmosphere, the most amazing views and an exceptional choice of restaurants and bars.

Monday 31 December
Various locations in The Rocks

It’s a Sydney must-do! All cosied up to the Harbour Bridge, and boasting a wide variety of fabulous food and drinks venues—ranging from Sydney’s oldest pub to a number of restaurants and rooftop bars with spectacular views out over the harbour—plus harbourside public spaces, The Rocks has got to be the #1 choice of NYE destinations!

Tickets to Campbells Cove, East Circular Quay or Hickson Road Reserve are sold out.

Visit sydneynewyearseve.com to purchase tickets to other vantage points.

Pre-show entertainment

Prepare to be thrilled as our flying ace masterminds an aerial display just for NYE. At 6.50pm, a tug boat takes centre stage in Sydney Harbour with a stunning water display followed by an encore aerial performance at 8pm.

Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony

Gadigal Elders welcome visitors to Gadigal land, inviting all to this age-old ritual of purification and unity to start our program.

Family fireworks display

The first fireworks allow our littlest spectators, who may nod off a little earlier, the chance to see a fantastic display. The display includes fireworks released from barges and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Includes the winning entry from the ABC’s Design Your Own Firework competition. Tune in to the synchronised simulcast on KIIS 1065.

Calling Country

A harbour-wide ceremony embracing and honouring the Dreaming of this place and our relationship to it. Enjoy live performances from the ABC concert at the Sydney Opera House and spectacular pylon projections.

Harbour of Light Parade

Sydney Harbour is illuminated with ships gliding across the water, enchanting spectators of all ages. Each vessel is decorated with cool white rope-lights, dazzling the crowds and adding to the unique choreography as the ships dance on the harbour.

Fireworks Display

At the stroke of midnight, we celebrate the start of the new year in spectacular fashion. The display features a huge range of pyrotechnic effects launched from firing points on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and barges in the harbour. Watch a live stream. Tune in to the synchronised simulcast on KIIS 1065.

Transport for NSW releases public transport information in early December.

Very large crowds are expected on New Year’s Eve. If you travel into the city, plan your trip and arrive early.

You’ll need an Opal card to travel on public transport. Remember to top up your card before the event as queues are expected on the day.

Getting home

Getting out of the city is different on New Year’s Eve. The way you come in will be different to the way you leave. There are many roads closed to people walking, driving and cycling, so follow directions and check signs.

Be prepared for a longer walk to buses and trains. Some train stations may have different entry and exit points.

Try to leave the city after 1am to avoid the crowds.
