Sydney’s original classroom

School excursions

As a place the traditional owners of The Rocks, the Gadigal, have long called home, and the site of first European settlement in Australia, The Rocks is one big outdoor classroom.
School excursions

You can walk along Australia’s oldest streets on your way to Sydney’s oldest house.

You can visit a rare surviving example of a working-class terrace built in 1844, and pick up some ‘old-school’ goodies from a 1915 corner store.

It’s also home to The Rocks Discovery Museum, a free group-friendly museum which has four permanent interactive exhibitions with touch screens and artefacts kids can touch. The museum also hosts a range of educational school holiday activities.

The Rocks is also home to Sydney Learning Adventures (SLA), a leading provider of school excursions and education programs, with a focus on Aboriginal and archaeology programs.

Programs include a walking tour of The Rocks and six unique archaeology programs at The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre in The Rocks.
