How about a ceremony in one of Australia’s oldest churches, photos in a romantic heritage setting, a reception on the waterfront and a suite with harbour views?

You can tick them all off your wedding ‘to do’ list in The Rocks. People travel from all over the world to get married here.

There's the harbour backdrop for starters; beautiful parks and gardens, luxurious accommodation, restaurants, function venues and some beautiful old churches. The Rocks is also home to some of the best vantage points for wedding photos anywhere in the world.

How to apply

Iconic waterfront locations in The Rocks or Darling Harbour include:

These spaces are open and bookable between 9am - 7pm. There is a maximum 3 hour block per booking. 

Bookings can be made up to 12 months in advance. 

Complete the application form and email to venuehire@property.nsw.gov.au.

If a ceremony is booked within our precinct, a photography permit is not required.

Venue Queries
  • A picturesque harbour backdrop and some of the best vantage points for wedding photos anywhere in the world.
  • Minimal set up as outlined in the ceremony application form ‘open space conditions of use for a ceremony’
  • Maximum of 3 hour booking for set up, ceremony and removal of items
  • No throwing of confetti (including rice, paper & flower petals)
  • Please note members of the public still have access to the venue

The erection of temporary structures, including marquees, requires specific approval. The applicant must submit a Place Management NSW Outdoor Event Application Form. Outdoor Venue Hire Rates will apply.

All open space within PM NSW is considered public open space and as such cannot be closed off to the public. Public access or thoroughfare must be maintained at all times.

  • Guest chairs are limited to a maximum of 30
  • A signing table with 2 additional chairs
  • A floral arch/arbour that is suitably weighted - No pegging or staking into the ground. I.e. sand bags or water weights only.
  • Carpet/aisle runner

Amplification requires specific authorisation and will be strictly regulated by PM NSW and the noise pollution authorities. Refer the Environment Protection Authority’s notice under Section 40 of the Noise Control Act 1975

Catering is not permitted on PM NSW open space.

More specific details about how best to use these spaces and the standard conditions to deliver a successful event can be found within the Outdoor Events Policy.

No. The use of any pyrotechnics or open flames are not permitted on PM NSW open space as per the 'Outdoor Events Policy 2017'

 

No, throwing of confetti, flowers, petals, rice or similar are not permitted on PM NSW open space areas.

Additionally, the following activities are not permitted. 

  • Use of any pyrotechnics or open flames
  • Use of balloons
  • Driving vehicles on grassed areas
  • Driving vehicles on boardwalk
  • Using PM NSW rubbish bins for private use (public use only)
  • Catering
  • Use of pegs and stakes
  • Use of glassware
  • The use of free-standing umbrellas

The applicant will be responsible for supplying rubbish bins, cleaning the surrounding area and removing all rubbish resulting from the event to the satisfaction of PMNSW

Applicants should note that street parking is limited and is not managed by PM NSW.

There are also local carparks that may be available however these are also not managed by PM NSW

Place Management NSW Rangers will be notified of your presence in the precinct on your nominated day

The Rangers can be contacted, 24hrs a day.

Payment and Cancellation
  • You can make payment by BPay, Direct Debit/EFT or alternatively, you can pay with credit card over the phone
  • Once your application is confirmed you will be issued with an invoice. PM NSW will send confirmation of booking when your payment is processed.

If a booking is cancelled, the following will apply:

  • The application fee is non-refundable in the event of cancellation
  • If the cancellation is received more than 30 days prior, a full refund of the booking fee will be granted. 
  • If the cancellation is received less than 30 days prior, no refunds are granted. 
  • In the event of cancellation due to extreme weather conditions, the booking fee will be refunded
