Connections: MCA x Tate
Contemporary art from the collections of MCA Australia and Tate Modern
Connections: MCA x Tate showcases Australia’s recent and ancient cultural histories through a First Nations lens. The exhibition brings together works by 33 Australian artists and features 14 key works from the 2015–2022 MCA and Tate International Joint Acquisition Program.
Following the success of A Year in Art: Australia 1992 at Tate Modern, which welcomed more than a million visitors, this presentation conceived for the MCA reframes the co-acquired works for an Australian context, focusing on themes of cultural exchange and trade, travel, migration and diasporic experience. The exhibition also considers how artists have used their work to address cultural frictions arising from British colonisation, by tracing contested histories and creating forms of protest in an effort to catalyse social changes.
