Live at the MCA: Sham El-Neseem

A moonlit celebration of renewal and community

As part of the Live at the MCA series, join a moonlit celebration of Sham El-Neseem – a festival dating back to ancient Egypt, celebrated across religions and backgrounds as a time of renewal and community.

Move between live performances from Egyptian-Australian artists including singer-songwriter Mariam Sawires and hip-hop artist Kid Pharaoh, whose sounds draw on their heritage and contemporary expression. Gather with friends over Egyptian food and drinks, pause for traditional henna tattooing overlooking Warrane/Sydney Harbour and experience the galleries as the evening unfolds around you.

Visit Wael Shawky’s monumental film Drama 1882, which transports the public to late 19th-century Alexandria through a powerful reimagining of history, adding another layer to an evening shaped by culture, community and contemporary art.

Live at the MCA brings Sham El-Neseem to the Museum in a vibrant program curated by queer Egyptian-Australian writer and presenter Daniel Nour.

Your ticket includes access to the program and all current MCA exhibitions.

The 2-for-1 ticket offer automatically applied to matching ticket types at checkout. Free for Members and under 18s.
