Casual spots to host your Christmas gathering

The Rocks is the place to be this Christmas season for long lunches, quick bites and casual catch ups with friends. Countless restaurants, bars and cafes here will come to life with festivities, including alfresco dining, special Xmas offers and guaranteed good times.

Alfresco dining in The Rocks

This summer, 19 of The Rocks’ most well-loved restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes are converting the area’s harbourside streets into alfresco dining areas. There will be a total of 1,000 extra seats on terraces and streets, perfect for eating and drinking long into the warm nights. There’s no better way to welcome the Christmas holidays!

The Tea Cosy

The Tea Cosy is the home of gourmet tea and delicious home baked scones in The Rocks. This charming historic hole-in-the-wall is serving a mouthwatering, one-off treat just for Christmas - rum and raisin scones slathered with boozy brandy cream. Anyone else hungry all of a sudden?

ASLAN Coffee Roasters

ASLAN Coffee Roasters source the best quality coffee beans directly from a supplier on the Indonesian archipelego and roast them in house. They serve their expertly brewed coffee alongside a delectable breakfast and lunch menu, and delicious pastries and cakes.

El Camino Cantina

In Mexico, they celebrate Christmas for an entire month, from December 12 until January 6. El Camino are keeping the fiesta going all summer, with their famous Tex Mex food, signature margaritas, cold Mexican cervezas and huge selection of mezcals and tequilas. See you there amigo!

The Glenmore

The Glenmore’s incredible rooftop view gets even better over Christmas. You’ll still be able to enjoy views over the harbour, the bridge and the Sydney Opera House with a cold drink in hand. But you’ll also be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Christmas festivities on the streets below, from fairy lights and Christmas trees to a golden train chugging down Atherden Street.

The Push

The Push serves crafted cocktails, delicious eats and local beer and wine inside a charming heritage space right in the middle of George Street. They host a live pianist every Friday and Saturday, helping get you into a festive mood with Christmas classics.

Caminetto Restaurant

During the silly season you’re allowed - no, encouraged! - to feast to your heart’s content. There are few better places to eat than Caminetto, where you’ll find authentic Italian food and one of the biggest, best courtyards in The Rocks.

Mrs Jones

Above one of the city’s oldest pubs, you’ll find modern cocktail terrace Mrs Jones, overlooking a shady sandstone courtyard. During sunny days and balmy evenings, this is the place to be - with a jug of mojito and a few friends by your side.

La Renaissance Patisserie

La Renaissance is Australia’s leading French patisserie and a purveyor of the most delicious baked goods we’ve ever tasted. This year, they’re getting into the Christmas spirit and inviting you to take part in a French holiday tradition: Every year on the 6th of January, the French celebrate Epiphany, the moment the Three Wise Men visited Baby Jesus. They gather with friends and family and feast on delicious Galette des Rois (king’s cake), a unique French cake filled with delicious traditional almond flavouring. Each cake contains a small porcelain figure (feve) and whoever finds it in their piece of galette is crowned the king and must wear a golden paper crown for the day.
