Unwind in style with the enchanting sounds of Jazz Sessions in The Rocks Square, every Thursday evening.

Each week, homegrown talent from the cool and creative world of Australian jazz will take the stage under twinkling lights and captivate you on a sonic adventure. This new program is curated by SIMA, who are passionate about presenting the most unique, exciting and diverse jazz. 

Mingle with your mates, catch up after work or make new friends as you connect over refreshing cocktails from Hickson House.

Jazz Sessions is free to attend, so you can unwind and enjoy the music each week without breaking the bank. It’s the perfect after work activity, pre or post dinner treat. We will go ahead rain or shine. Join us outdoors under the stars at The Rocks Square, or just a 2 minute walk away at 6-8 Atherden St in the event of wet weather.

  • 6pm: Jazz Sessions opens 
  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm - First Set 
  • 7.30pm - 8pm - Break
  • 8pm - 9pm - Second Set

Virna Sanzone and Kevin Hunt

Widely regarded as one of Australia's most captivating vocalists, Virna performs regular shows under her own name and has collaborated on projects that have seen her move across a diverse range of genres, from jazz, to soul, to world and beyond. Kevin Hunt is a jazz pianist-composer who has performed regularly in the Sydney jazz scene since 1979. As well as performing jazz music, Kevin teaches jazz studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Jo Fabro's Home Cookin

Those who have lived and breathed the Sydney live music scene with a penchant for blues and soul music, may already be familiar with Fabro. Her rich and soulful voice has rained down on listeners in venues and at festivals across the country for over a decade, during which time she has steadily built a core of dedicated followers.

Lauren White

Bassist and vocalist, Lauren White presents a night of jazz and bossa nova favourites and new original contemporary jazz. Known for her down-to-earth style, grounding bass and warm, soulful melodies, Lauren has performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, the Sydney Opera House, and has studied at the esteemed Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA in Los Angeles.

Mary Heart
Mary Heart has firmly established herself as one of Australia’s favourite Jazz musicians. She is a multi-instrumentalist, playing double bass, cello or bass guitar whilst singing the roof off. As well as performing your most beloved Jazz and 50’s rock and roll classics, Mary reinterprets today’s most popular music in a retro style.

Queen Porter Stomp
Queen Porter Stomp use their dirty swamp magic to shirk those Prohibition blues – swinging skirts and scuffed shoes for hardwood and concrete dancefloors alike. This is jazz where swing is the key you play, Melody is your gypsy mistress, and signature is what you’re trying to avoid committing to paper until you have a shot of bootlegged whisky.
